As the founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, Elon Musk has his hand on the pulse of technological development, so his peers may find his recent statements a bit strange. The inventor and corporate CEO is cautioning man against utilizing artificial intelligence in warfare. Even though the world’s governments may not be listening, Musk is continuing to sound off against this practice, revealing his fear that such an action will spell doom for mankind.
Elon Musk Warns That the Machines Will Rise
While fans of James Cameron’s The Terminator may agree with Elon Musk, the inventor is finding it difficult to convince world leaders of the very real threat that “killer robots” pose. The SpaceX CEO was joined by other leaders in the technology industry to issue a stern warning to the United Nations that autonomous weaponry may result in a “third revolution in warfare”.
Elon provided just one signature on the petition of more than 100 leaders of the robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) industry. The letter urges the United Nations to take action to prevent the manufacturing and use of such weapons now, before the world creates a problem it can’t resolve.
The “killer robots” are fully independent machines that operate based on programming, which instructs the device on which people and objects to kill or destroy.
There’s a Greater Fear Than Self Aware Terminators
